Renewable Energy Project

Braeport Centre has a great location in the centre of town, easily reached on foot and also benefiting from plenty of car and bike parking. The Centre is well used, but this old school building is in need of some enhancements to allow it to serve the needs of the community.

We have plans to create a social area, new kitchen, toilets and office, which have been scaled back due to Covid-19 disruptions, however we are dedicated to ensuring the Braeport Centre continues to develop to service the needs of its community.

What we can do now, is upgrade the heating system in the building, by replacing the old, inefficient boiler with an air source heat pump and solar panels.

What is an air source heat pump?

An air source heat pump transfers heat from the outside air to water, which will heat the building via radiators. Heat from the air is absorbed into a fluid. This fluid then passes through a heat exchanger into the heat pump, which raises the temperature and then transfers that heat to water.

Why do you need solar panels?

Some electricity is needed to run the heat pumps, so we are looking to install solar panels on the rear side of the building, protecting the roadside views.

What are the benefits?

Reasons for installing a renewable energy generation system:

  • Reduce the total cost of running the Braeport Centre

  • Much more energy efficient than a boiler system

  • Modern, low carbon heating system

  • Make our contribution to Scotland’s net zero targets

  • Ensure our centre users are cosy all year round

Raising funds

The total cost of the project is estimated at £110,000. This includes the air source heat pumps, the solar panels and work needed on the building and roof to allow for installation.

We have received funding from Local Energy Scotland, Forth Valley & Lomond CLLD, CSET and Stirling Council, towards the cost of the air source heat pumps and the solar panels. We are also applying for other funds to contribute to the cost.

We are asking the community to help us achieve our target by donating via Kindlink page. Our target amount is £7,500. This will ensure the project can be successfully completed.
